The Route

5 Days of Racing | 262km | 5720m Climbing

Your journey will start with a prologue, first introduced in 2019 with superb feedback from riders, so it will become a permanent feature of the race.

The prologue will count for GC and for starting positions for Stage 1. Riders will have a chance to warm up a bit and familiarise themselves with the terrain before the real 4-day journey begins.

Prologue

13km 300m Climbing

Short and Salty

The prologue will be a relatively short stage (13 kilometres with a couple of hundred meters of climbing) where all racers will get their first taste of our version of ‘island life’. This Prologue will be used to determine your starting position and times for the race itself. So, the faster you go, the better your start time!

The Prologue starts with a sprint off along and over the famous Baška town beach, towards the edge of town; from there a short climb towards the pine tree forest that’s filled with technical but fun trails; once safely through the trails, it’s back down towards the beach.

I'm a rock-it man

Nowadays, everyone is launching rockets into outer space in search of the next best place to live. Who knows, humanity just might circle back to the golden age of space exploration and land on the moon again!

On Stage 1, we aren’t sending you to the next galaxy, but you will get to experience some moon-like surfaces.

At the start, you will be climbing a narrow singletrack to reach the 12km long Krk Moon Surface trail. And there is only the jet fuel in your legs to get there! No Elon Musk is gonna help you here but our volunteers will be cheering all the way.

ISLAND RAB

Stage 2

65km 1120m Climbing

Shades of Rab

They call it the Island of Happiness, they call it the Emerald Island, they call it the Sandy Island for the largest number of sand beaches in the Adriatic. They can call it what they want ‘cause we like to call it Stage 2. Hermanus might have the whales, but Lopar has the dolphins.

This is the fast stage that is not very technically demanding. It features many shorter singletracks to reward your efforts and to make your day. It’s not often that you’ll experience what feels like a trip around the globe in just one day – – a ferry, a path built in stone, jungle, desert. You name it, Rab stages it.

The stage starts from a very ferry and the first challenge appears after only a single kilometre. A hardcore climb that might force many to push their bikes instead of riding them. To put your minds at ease, this is the toughest climb you’ll race.

While the start may be hard, the architectural masterpieces of Ante Premužić (who designed the paths through the Croatian Wilderness almost 100 years ago) will be on display for you to admire and enjoy.

The First chance comes almost immediately after Kampor where Premužić path takes you over Frkanj all the way to the beach of Suha Punta. From there, the jungle beckons, but don’t get lost as the most demanding descent of the entire race waits for you at the edge of the forest.

The second chance to ride and enjoy the architecture comes with probably the best view of the whole race: first a climb to Fruge and then a descent to Paradise Beach in Lopar-the longest sand beach in a the Adriatic-for a kilometre and half of fat-bike desert terrain and a singletrack at the end to smoothly slide into the finish line.

If you’re open to a piece of advice – obtain the best possible position in the first 10 kilometres, try to find your place in the elite speedster group riding through Kalifront and preserve enough strength for the climb and descent down to Paradise Beach.

Stage 3

Shepherd's Paradise

There’s beauty on display from start to finish, but don’t let the stage’s beauty pull wool over your eyes. This is a technically challenging and physically demanding stage.

Aside from the actual beauty of the stage, “The Shepherd’s Paradise” takes place in a bike restricted area that’s full of narrow lanes, trails and seaside views that will leave you breathless and hungry for more. Outside of the 4Islands MTB Stage Race, you won’t be able to enjoy this experience! Unless you’re very sneaky, but don’t be like that.

Stage 4

40km 900m Climbing

Push Your Limits

Before you take a deep breath, enjoying a beautiful sea view while deep in your thoughts and joy of finishing.

Before you drink a relaxing beer with your partner to celebrate the achievement.

Before you take a moment to congratulate yourself on the tremendous effort you delivered…

Before all of that, you need to give it your all in the last stage.

Stage 4 may be the shortest stage of the race, at only 40 kilometres, but it’s unforgettable as it’s an incredible challenge to wrap up your time at the 4Islands. This is the stage to give it all – the shortest but most intense, 40 unforgettable kilometres – a stage for winners who always give their best.

Push to the limits and leave no stone unturned at the final stage of 4 Islands.
